Identification
Surfing is one of the fastest-growing sports in the world with currently more than 40 million surfers on the globe. To meet this increasing demand, some wave pool technologies have emerged. They opened up a new global market and changed the rules of the game in the world of surfing. However, there is a big problem: these wave pools are not sustainable. OKAHINA WAVE aims to improve the biodiversity of degraded aquatic environments by creating sustainable surf destinations on existing bodies of water anywhere in the world. The solution relies on patented technological breakthroughs, a floating atoll associated to a low-energy wave generation system. OKAHINA is the only man-made wave ridable in a natural environment. Not only its floating structure can be set up and dismantled easily with no impact on the environment but it improves the ecosystems degraded by human activity: no concrete and no water treatment needed, no high energy, oxygenation of the water, diminution of cyanobacteria, filtration of plastics, new habitats for the biotope. OKAHINA is also a profitable economic solution in a new global market. It creates jobs and increases the attraction of the territories where the solution is located.
