Research project in the field of Airborne Wind Energy (AWE). Our aim: take a different approach to the AWE technology

Research project in the sector of " Airborne Wind Energy" (AWE), belonging to the type "ground-gen", "mono-tether" operating through a different type of cycle "Yo-Yo". The KGM1 initiative aims to draw a new path in the AWE sector, with a first off-grid generator of small size, which will experiment with solutions that can afterwards be implemented on an advanced version equipped with a semi-rigid, multi-technological, mono-tether wing . The high altitude wind sector, to finally go into mass production, more than ever needs simple and effective solutions, what is called "robust design" and KGM1 could have identified (and patented) efficient technical solutions while steering clear of the "hyper-technology syndrome", which leads to frequent maintenance intervals, difficult insurability and an exponential increase of the "complexity”. The KGM1 project approach allows for reduction, possibly even halving the time to mass production.

The project is scheduled in 4 Step, but due to its huge dimensions has been divided in two main parts, with deadlines on every milestone. The first goal will be the off-grid validation (COSTS = 200 K€). following upgrades and obtimizations toward off-grid production. The double goal will become to put in production a little size (and low weight/cost) off-grid generator, calibrated on the local population that lives in remote regions of the earth. By with this operation we will be incrementally able to pay the development of the next part of the program, on-grid and to develop other innovations going toward on-grid series production.
