Looking beyond the increasingly modernized cities in China, over 300 million residents in rural and suburban China don't have access to clean drinking water. Due to inadequate voices and lack of visibility on drinking water quality in rural China, this issue of poor water quality has long been neglected. Clean water solution providers attempt to reach these communities with innovative resources. However, there has been few data points to guide their local strategies. MyH2O - Water Information Network was established to tackle exactly this problem. As one of the first crowdsourcing platform for China’s rural water information, MyH2O aims to connect clean water resources to rural communities through a data visualization platform and customized data services for solution providers, with the ultimate goal to bring in new resources to the underprivileged population and improve their overall health. MyH2O's core team consists of experts and scholars across US and China who foucs on clean water, rural health and data science. With support from Echoing Green, National Geographic, SEE Foundation and Alibaba Foundation, our network grew to over 90 field members covering more than 1000 villages across 26 provinces, and has successfully collected thousands of data points for clean water entities in China and abroad. With this platform we are hoping to ultimately bring forth stronger local voices, cleaner water, and healthier communities.
