Sigfox Foundation
We give a voice to the vulnerable planet and human living with connected low power and low cost sensors.
Sigfox is a unique and global network dedicated to the The Internet of Things, listening and emitting trillions of signals, turning them into cloud-based data. Sigfox Foundation is using this new type of connectivity to create viable solutions and is offering them whether it's urgent : safety research in Antarctica, the protection of endangered species in Africa, and the detection of earthquakes in Latin America.
New monitoring of Antarctica
Description
We offer a new solution to monitor Antartica using low power sensors, thanks to the very long range Sigfox network.
The Sigfox Foundation and the Princess Elisabeth Station, property of Belgium State, have partnered in 2016 to secure a 45 researchers expedition in Antartica. Sigfox network has been deployed in few hours with only 2 base stations to track people throughout GPS trackers with years of autonomy ( trackers provided by Sensolus). The low power system has been also used to track equipments, and gave a lot of ideas to scientists for Antarctic research, based on many types of sensors, enriching new measurements.

Now Rhinos Speak
Description
We have invented a new way to protect wild rhinos in Africa, throughout a new low power and less intrusive device.
Partnering with a group of rhinos experts (Lowveld Rhino Trust, Save The Rhino and International Rhino Foundation), we have created a new tracking system to help rangers to better monitor the animals, at remote. We have prototyped a small tracker giving 3 GPS signals per day, installed in the horn, able to send positions few years without battery contraints.

Seismic Alert in Mexico
Description
Mexico is facing a major seismic risk, and we offer a new early-stage monitoring of seismic activity.
Current devices deployed are not effective to prevent the population from an imminent earthquake. These are often expensive, and it drives a lot of contraints to be massively densified. Part of that, the information of a seismic alert is not well-located, and is sometimes giving a poor information, for instance gelolocalization of the episode. The issue is to better get weak signals through a large density of sensors, better refining and analysing the data collected from sensors. What is expected is to transform this data into an alert. Sigfox Foundation, using the low power and long range Sigfox network, is developing a new seismic alert system, based on : – Low power sensors – Specific algorithm – SMS alert based on real time and geolocated data This project is a Mexican-French collaboration between Sigfox/IoTnet Mexico (network), 42 Silicon Valley (algorithm, hardware), XBrain (predictive analysis) and Mexican Seismology institutions.
