The Green Startups Accelerator is a Beijing-based environmental NGO and WRI, a U.S. based environmental think tank to promote green entrepreneurship in China. It is the pioneer acceleration platform for green innovation and entrepreneurship in China. Its approach described as "accelerating" +"impact investing" helps early startups with an environmental intent to overcome survival barriers and to sustain development.
The Green Startups Accelerator is engaged with more than 2100 green entrepreneurs with around 200 startups mentored, covering 25 provinces and autonomous regions in China with over 1 billion RMB of investment facilitated. Through the cleanteach startups it supported, an accumulated 13 million tons CO₂ emissions equivalent is reduced.
The accelerator obtains funding from foundations and CSR department of big companies for its operation and provides investment facilitation to a network of over 50 international and domestic investors and financial institutions. It is also in the process of launching the first impact fund in environmental field, the Green Leaf Fund and to build a “co-investment platform” with other early-stage funds interested in cleantech sectors to inject "Patient Capital" into startups.
