Currento® stands as a groundbreaking metal fiber media, facilitating efficient electrolysis for green hydrogen production by acting as a porous transport layer (PTL) within electrolyzer stacks. This product is pivotal in the production of green hydrogen. To meet the ambitious net carbon zero goals set for 2050, the IEA anticipates a substantial increase in electrolyzer capacity. However, underdeveloped production facilities pose a challenge. Bekaert steps in to address this gap by investing in the manufacturing of Currento® which will serve for PEM electrolyzers. Currento® is currently in a medium state of maturity, with significant strides being made toward large-scale commercialization. The Ti fibre PTL component has reached a high technological readiness level, signifying thorough development and testing phases. Currently, Currento® is undergoing testing and is available for purchase globally, catering to a substantial portion of electrolyzer stack OEMs.
