PlasticFri has partnered with Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) to introduce plant-based, plastic-free cups on a Copenhagen to Los Angeles flight. This initiative, part of SAS’s commitment to sustainable aviation, showcases a major step in reducing the environmental impact of air travel. As part of The Aviation Challenge (TAC), this concept flight marks a pioneering move in replacing traditional plastic cups with eco-friendly alternatives made entirely from renewable plant-based materials. This collaboration sets the stage for further innovation and sustainability in the aviation industry.
This initiative is a key milestone in the broader goal of transforming air travel to be more sustainable, with PlasticFri committed to driving further change across industries and contributing to a plastic-free future.
Nearly all of the plastic that has ever been made still exists today, much of it finding its way into nature. PlasticFri is a GreenTech company from Sweden with the vision to end plastic pollution catastrophe. Conventional plastics are made from petroleum and stay in the environment up to 1000 years! By 2050, the oceans could have more plastic than fish. PlasticFri is on a mission to change that by transforming renewable resources to bio-based products for replacing disposable plastics. This revolutionary technology is already tested, validated and certified by the toughest certification standards in Europe. For its groundbreaking work, the company was awarded as the “World’s Most Innovative Sustainability Startup” among 1400 companies worldwide! PlasticFri has also been awarded the prestigious “Startup Company of the Year in Sweden" as well as named “Most promising Impact company in Nordics and Baltics"
