Using seawater to cool pv-solar power plants and support agriculture
IrrigationNets prevent yield losses caused by droughts and increasing temperatures. These IrrigationNets can desalinate seawater or saline groundwater to adapt open field agriculture to climate change. These salt free seawater cooling infrastructures produce very large quantities of salt-free cold moist and generate air that cools and humidifies entire fields of several hectares. At first, PV solar power plants are cooled down which then can generate up to 18% more electricity. In one hand it cools down the solar power plant, and in the other hand it supports agriculture in arid regions. It doesn't generate drinkable water, but a very large amount of cold wet air. Due to the simultaneous positive effects for power generation and agriculture the system is already profitable for power plants from 500 kW in combination with agriculture. To conclude it generates net 10-12% more energy due to cooling as well as 30% more yield in agriculture.
