Appropriate Energy Saving Technologies (AEST) LTD is woman-led social enterprise that creates livelihood opportunities for women in the cook stove and fuel value chain in Eastern Uganda.The enterprise aims to eradicate over dependence on wood fuel in Uganda by making organic charcoal for cooking from agricultural waste as an alternative to wood fuel among households and institutions in urban and peri urban areas in Eastern Uganda.

Charcoal Briquettes; AEST LTD manufactures and sells charcoal briquettes with a brand name ‘Makaa’ made from recycled agricultural waste(Groundnut husks) to households and institutions in urban and periurban areas of Uganda. Our briquettes are a viable low cost alternative to environmentally damaging fuels such as firewood,kerosene and wood charcoal because they smokeless leading to reduced pollution and respiratory health problems associated with inhaling smoke from cook stoves. They have a long burning and heating capacity and are far cheaper than wood charcoal and fire wood helping customers to save costs on fuel and preserve of tree cover.
