About

Gold is a precious, rare metal with very specific properties (color, resistance to corrosion, infrared reflection...). Its mining has a very high environmental impact while its consumption continues to grow, particularly due to aesthetic applications (jewelry, luxury). Often, its metallurgy uses other rare raw materials like palladium or rhodium to optimize hardness and colors. To keep rare resources for the future generations and decrease the carbon footprint of gold applications, we need innovative solutions. DAUMET proposes to use gold differently thanks to an innovative and patented gold alloy, presenting large similarities with pure gold but with lower impact. During research in microelectronics, a team managed by Albert Fert, 2007 Nobel prize in Physics, succeeded to mix for the first time gold with tungsten, the hardest metal and the only one presenting the same density than gold. So, this ultimate gold alloy presents a lot of common properties than pure gold but it's also more resistant (mechanical, temperature...), cheaper and more sustainable because tungsten is much more abundant in the Earth. These innovative alloys was the Graal for gold metallurgists and could be used today as thin film in a lot of applications to replace pure gold. At 18 karats, this gold/tungsten alloy is also the whitest gold, a solution to an historical problem in jewelry. DAUMET chooses to begin its business with aesthetic applications in luxury and jewelry. Why? Because gold is the key material for a non-essential but very common and growing human activity: to take care of its appearance. By substituting rare raw materials with more abundant one, DAUMET contributes to decrease the environmental impact of jewelry and luxury. For a jewel, the gain on carbon footprint is estimated at 15% and 10% for consumed energy. With this innovative solution, we also contribute to preserve the oceans from mining exploration. Today, DAUMET is a pioneer green tech in luxury and, in ten years, DAUMET aims to become a worldwide reference in sustainable solutions for gold applications.
