About

Swedish Algae Factory extracts a unique nanoporous silica material from algae with light manipulating and absorbing and releasing properties. The material is branded under the name Algica and is today used as an ocean-safe moisturizer, cleanser, rheology modifier and anti-pollution agent in skin care products. Algicas UV light blocking traits are being tested for use as a UV filter in personal care products. Algicas light manipulating traits has also in lab and field tests shown to be able to increase the efficiency of solar panels/solar cells. This application wil first be commercialized when Swedish Algae Factory´s first larger facility is up and running. Both Swedish Algae Factory´s current smaller facility and the larger one is operated with a circular economic mindset. Our algae cultivation are using nutrients and water for growth from a nearby land-based fish farm. After extraction of the nanoporous silica material the rest of the omega 3 oil- and nutrientrich organic biomass is used to feed fish more sustainably, for energy and ecofertilizers. Swedish Algae Factory is focusing on cultivation of saltwater species to aviod using the scare fresh water supply.
